JOHN LUCKHAM

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of John Luckham age 87; Chairman of this Association from 1972 to 1975 and President from 1976 to 1978. His cremation took place at Broadstone Crematorium after a short service conducted by the Rev Martin Fredriksen on the 4th May 2000.

John was born in Swanage, educated locally and at Oxford University. He lived in Harraby Green for the last 16 years, prior to which he had lived in Merrifield Avenue. During his working life he was employed by the Dunlop Rubber Company, first at Southampton and then in India. It was therefore natural that during World War II, he should serve in the Indian Army - Madras Guards. At the age of 58 he took early retirement and it was at this stage that he got involved with the Association, and additionally became Chairman of the British Legion.

John was married to Joan and it is to her that we wish to give our condolences but also thanks for John's service to the community.
