KEN SLYDEL
Area Warden
Being a Dorset man, I joined the Dorset Police back in
1949 retiring in 1975 to take on the position of Senior Road Safety
Officer for the Dorset CC, covering the whole of East Dorset including
Poole and Bournemouth until I finally retired in 1993.
My wife Joyce and I moved to Broadstone in 1985 and found
how friendly the village was and joined several local organisations,
such as the Horticulture Society, Family History Society and Poole U3A,
which is great organisation to further your knowledge on a great number
of subjects.
I became a street warden for the Residents' Association in 1993 when
I saw in the newsletter that they were short of volunteers, and now
enjoy delivering the newsletter 3 times a year when I meet some of the
residents to have a chat. I find it fascinating to discover what interesting
lives these have had and are still continuing.
My hobbies and interests are, art, leading and art class for the U3A,
travel, family history (now back to 1550), playing my electronic keyboard,
gardening, swimming, walking, and recently learning the secrets of a
computer. I am also a Neighbourhood Watch contact, and with my wife,
members of the National Trust Association.
All in all I enjoy living in Broadstone and being able to give my time
freely to the community.
