BROADSTONE MOTOR SERVICESThe beginningMy wife and I came to live in Broadstone a little over a year ago. We had wanted to get away from Bournemouth for some time, as we both work hard during the day and like to be able to have some peace and quiet at night - which is very difficult in Bournemouth. When the opportunity of a flat in Broadstone came up we decided to take it, and it has proved to be ideal - we can socialise when we choose and have peace when we need it. I had run my own motor repair business in Bournemouth successfully but, due to proposed re-development, I lost the lease on my workshop some two and a half years ago. Finding new premises proved to be impossible so, very reluctantly, I had to go and work for someone else. I was brought up with a philosophy of decency and fair play as well as the desire always to do a good job. I found that this worked very well in my own business and old customers are still contacting me to do jobs for them. Unfortunately, this is not always a common attitude in the motor trade so I had not been happy working for other people. Living in Broadstone, it soon became obvious that there were a lot of cars but no local business to help the residents to maintain them. I thought that it must be very inconvenient for people to have to travel into Poole or Bournemouth and lose their car for the day. I felt excited by the opportunity that this presented to me. So I decided to go it alone once again. I searched for premises for some time even though I knew that in this area this would require a considerable capital outlay. Alas there was nothing! At this point my wife suggested the idea of being "mobile". On thinking the idea through this seemed to be the answer as in some ways it could be even more convenient for customers - so here I am. I have done some market research in the area - indeed, I may have already
spoken to some of you in the Broadway and you will see my advertising
"flyers" in a number of the shop windows. I am particularly
optimistic about this venture as I feel that my philosophy of business
will fit in very well with the expectations of the people of Broadstone,
as well as providing them with a much needed service in the area. Some people have said that at 26 years of age my approach to business is perhaps a little "old - fashioned" but I have seen friends of my father and grandfather run very successful businesses based on "a job well done" and my own experience has reinforced this approach. I like Broadstone and my experience of the people who live here leads me to believe that they will appreciate the service that I offer and support the way in which I offej it. So now I look to the future and hope that it shall be a prosperous one. Steve Rose 07787 960721 previous | Archive Winter 2001 | next Say you saw it on "Broadstone NET" |
