FANCY A ROUND OF GOLF?

Those of us who live in Broadstone are very lucky to have a first class golf course on our doorsteps. Having celebrated its centenary in 1998, Broadstone golf course offers a mature, challenging course to young and old alike. It is described as a heathland course and the protection of the heather and its natural environment are of concern to everyone interested in nature conservation. The golf course is home to a wealth of flora and fauna and after years of careful management it continues to provide a natural habitat for many species of birds and animals, including foxes and deer.

Well, that's all very well but what about the golf? Broadstone is one of the finest golf courses in Dorset and has a large membership of both men and women, with a thriving junior section.

The Ladies section, captained this year by Mrs Bernie Oxley, has a membership of around 80 ladies. Ladies Day is every Thursday morning when a usually large turnout competes in competitions. Ladies play at other times too of course, and there are lots of friendly games with fellow members or against other clubs. Mixed competitions with the men are also very popular. Bernie's charity this year is the Valentine Fund, helping to fund a new Coronary Care Unit at Poole Hospital and many social events are on the calendar for members to enjoy themselves and support this worthwhile charity. The modem, large clubhouse in Wentworth Drive offers a perfect venue for social evenings of benefit to members and guests alike.

Why not come and play a round of golf at Broadstone or perhaps you would like to become a member? For beginners, or those just wanting to improve their game, Assistant Professional Tracy Loveys is a popular teacher. There are vacancies now for ladies and girls so contact the Secretary Manager, Mr Colin Robinson on 692595, who will be only too pleased to give you details.
