BROADSTONE IN BLOOM

1 hope you will agree that the Broadway has looked bright and cheerful this spring with all the daffodils and by the time you read this the summer flowers will have taken over. Our thanks to the shops and businesses who provide their own tubs and baskets. They always look colourful. This year still more businesses have agreed to have baskets or tubs (provided by Poole Council) and we are grateful to them for watering and looking after them.

1st Broadstone Guides planted Waterman Way with wild flowers which will be joined by bulbs in the autumn and 5th Broadstone Brownies are again growing sunflowers to join other sun lovers in Dunyeats Rd. The Evening W.I. have continued their annual bulb planting with the daffodils under the subway as well as keeping some of the flower beds tidy. The Horticultural Society look after the bed in front of Somerfields, a big thank you to them all. If anyone would like to help in any way or has suggestions please contact me.

Following a meeting with Cllr. Bob Williams and a representative of the Consumer Protection Dept , damaged litter bins have been replaced and others moved in the hope that it will improve the litter problem. Work is also going on with local schools to try to educate the younger generation about the litter nuisance. It is hoped that when the Skate park near B&Q is completed, that the surrounds to the flower beds near the roundabout will cease to be damaged.

Finally, thanks to Beecroft Nursery for the donation of bedding plants and to the Residents Assn, Broadstone Chamber of Trade and those local businesses who have given donations to help with our work we will try to spend it wisely.
