GOOD HEALTH - A NATURAL BALANCE

Are we in good health? And what do we mean by good health? Health is more than the absence of illness and disease. It is a positive, vigorous state of well-being, both physically and mentally. To be in good health the body's many and varied cells, organs and systems must all be working together in a state of balance. This balance extends beyond the physical and we need mental, emotional and spiritual equilibrium to enjoy well-being.

if this balance is disturbed then poor health can develop. Impoverished diet, smoking, pollution, physical injury, lack of exercise, inadequate sleep and emotional stress all constitute disturbances. If disturbances continue over a period of time then illness and disease can follow.

The symptoms of ill health can vary. Seemingly unrelated symptoms may appear such as eczema, headaches, insomnia, depression, a dulling of feelings towards life. By treating only the symptoms we are ignoring the underlying cause of the disease, and without restoring the body's innate balance, the body will continue to just present 'symptoms'.

By following some basic principles of healthy living we can do a lot to help ourselves. Sensible eating, adequate exercise and restful sleep will all help the balance of the body. However there will be times when expert advice is needed to restore health. Naturopathy is a system of medicine which concentrates on prevention of disease by maintaining health of all organs and systems in the body. A wide variety of treatments can be used such as Herbal Medicine, Homeopathy, Vitamin and Mineral therapy, diet and lifestyle modification to re-establish a person's health.
