BROADSTONE IN BLOOM

The volunteers who look after the flower beds in Broadstone have been busy as usual. The plants in the newly planted bed near the roundabout have been chosen for easy care and resistance to drought as watering is a big problem. This is the first bed which we have been able to plant from scratch, with enough money in the bank to buy a good selection of plants rather than raiding our own gardens and using bargain buys. Our thanks therefore to local shops and businesses, Chamber of Trade, and Residents Association who support us with donations. There are even more baskets and tubs this year, all grown by Victoria School's Horticultural section and supplied by Poole in Bloom.

Local guides and Brownies helped with planting more wild flowers near Waterman Way. Next year you should see cowslips appearing near the roundabout. Broadstone Evening W.I. did more bulb planting, this time on Higher Blandford Road, along the service road. A litter pick was organised around the sports centre car park, subway area and Higher Blandford Road. Although we collected 13 bags of litter plus various larger pieces, with more volunteers we could have done more, so watch out next year for the request for help in the local papers. We would also like a few more volunteers to help with the gardening, a couple of hours occasionally is all we need, if you can help please telephone me on 695873.
