TO COMMEMORATE THE QUEEN'S GOLDEN JUBILEE

A tree to commemorate the Queen's Golden Jubilee was ceremonially planted on the 23rd April at 11am in Broadstone recreation ground, close to the War Memorial. The tree was planted by Dr Ken Fleming, President of Broadstone Residents Association on their behalf and also representing the Broadstone Chamber of Trade. The tree is a twin for the one planted to commemorate the Millennium and together with the seat and the two trees, it provides a quiet place to sit and cogitate, possibly with friends. It was an appropriate day for this ceremonial Tree planting to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of our Queen, Elizabeth II because it was the day after the Queen's actual birthday and it was St George's Day. Many might say that this location is inappropriate but it is a place, which almost everyone knows or can be directed to. It is close to the War Memorial and adjacent to one of the main paths into the recreation ground. It was the Association's desire to find a site with a view over Poole but one of the only places with such attributes is off the beaten track, so we were persuaded that the War Memorial was the most suitable site.
