WARDENS IN CRISISWhat is the connection between newspaper deliverers and Broadstone Residents’ Association Road Wardens? It is not immediately obvious is it? Newspapers are delivered 364 days per year whilst our wardens make just 3 visits. The law forbids newspaper deliveries before 7am whilst our Road Wardens can pretty much choose their time. Paper boys/girls or OAP’ s supplementing a meagre pension, never collect money. Once a year Wardens do. Those delivering newspapers rarely get to speak to the people receiving them while in contrast Road Wardens usually create a friendly relationship with their members. Newspaper deliverers can earn up to £20 per week whilst for the Warden there is only the satisfaction of knowing by their voluntary contribution they have helped to keep this very healthy Association running smoothly. So what is the connection? Newspaper retailers are finding it increasingly difficult to tempt boys and girls out of their beds. Similarly the Residents’ Association is continuously struggling to find members willing to give a little of their time to deliver magazines and collect the annual subscription. Why? Surely it cannot be because everyone is too busy, since the time involved over the year is really quite small. Maybe its because people don’t like knocking on doors and trying to ‘sell’ something. It’s hardly high pressure selling and once it is explained what the Association does for Broadstone only very, very rarely do households decline to join. Most people are only too pleased to see their Warden even if it is only once a year for a chat. So please would you consider becoming a warden. It can be very satisfying and you will certainly get to know more people locally. Currently we are 12 Wardens short so please phone the new Chief Warden, John Sayers, on 602235 and offer to help. PLEASE DO IT NOW! Say you saw it on "Broadstone NET" |
