TREFOIL GUILD

The Trefoil Guild was set up some 60 years ago as part of the Guide Movement and is now the senior section of Girlguiding UK. Its members are not necessarily former Guides or Brownies, but many of them have served the movement as leaders. Groups meet all over the country and vary in size from a small handful of members to groups of fifty or sixty. Their activities vary, depending on the size of the group and the abilities of the members, but are largely in line with the activities of the Guides. So we learn new crafts, have talks from a variety of speakers, and yes, some of us still go camping!

Here in Broadstone the group is quite small, just ten members, but we meet regularly, on the fourth Wednesday of each month. As well as the social aspect of our meetings, we also try to support the young people involved in the movement in whatever way we can. Sometimes that means making tea at an event, or judging in the Christmas Parade. We also make ourselves available to help in any practical way. And we definitely do not spend all our time saying ‘It’s not like it was when I was a girl’.

Last year we joined with other Guilds as we celebrated our Diamond Jubilee. There were a large number of social events, culminating in a day at Foxlease, the Guide Training Establishment in the New Forest, when we met up with Trefoil members from throughout the South West Region.

Anyone who would like to join us would be most welcome. Our local Secretary is Mrs Eva Wadsworth on 01202 692783.
