BROADSTONE AGE CONCERNIt is hard to believe that in February we shall celebrate our 21st birthday. We have been very fortunate that in that time we have retained most of our helpers. We have only had 3 Organisers and 3 Treasurers in that time. Two of the helpers who started with us all those years ago Betty Riley & Edna Hill retired on 9th Nov. and we thank them both for their devoted service. They came every 5 weeks for all of those 21 years. Stan Oldring our Treasurer for most of the last 21 years retired in March and we thank him for all the hard work he put in. George Hattemore (late of G.J. Footwear) is our new chairman. The Day Centre is very much a community and even the members are very caring to others. Poole Hospital Wish List - we saw and we started fundraising for Kimmeridge Ward. This is the elderly persons rehabilitation ward where patients go before they come back home. We held weekly raffles and 2 bring & buy sales. We spoke to the Middle School and they agreed to do a non-uniform day and Caesar's Bistro agreed to do a meal and raffle. Mathews's mum used to be one of our helpers. We are very much a family. At the moment of writing this I cannot tell you the final money raised for vital blood pressure/oxygen monitors the ward needs but to say that after our first bring and buy and members raffles at the centre we had raised £300. We hope to purchase these monitors in time for Christmas. Broadstone Over 60's Club for the more active people meets every Wednesday in the White's Room at the Community Centre from 2-4pm why not drop in and see what they can offer you or vice versa. If you know of anyone who could benefit from joining us on a Tuesday please get in touch or call in and see us for coffee. It is open to married couples and people who live in sheltered accommodation. We have little or no referrals from G.P.'s or Social Services. We also go on outings and to the beach in the summer.
Our shop will celebrate its 15th birthday next year. Can you spare a few hours to help? We need people for 3 hour slots at the shop and also some more drivers for the centre on a Tuesday between 9.30-10.15 am and 2.30-3.15 pm if you feel you would like to join us please ring Ann on 849136. Say you saw it on "Broadstone NET" |
