BROADSTONE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCHThe Chairman David Williams welcomed a record attendance of 120 members and guests to the Annual General Meeting held in St. John's Church Hall on 26th. May. The Watch had had a busy and successful year with membership around 2,800 including 23 Co-ordinators and 220 Contacts. He then went on to illustrate all the activities and achievements and also the great help and support received from the Police through our Community Beat Officer PC Nick Wyer, our local Section Commander at Gravel Hill Inspector Adrian King, and the Watch Manager Debbie Kelly. The Chairman related his experience as a Police Observer in a response car from Gravel Hill, which had illustrated graphically just what the Police had to contend with these days. Since the start of this year Broadstone has experienced a surge in anti-social behaviour incidents. The Police have taken concerted action and the situation is being monitored very closely. Following the AGM there was a special presentation by the Mayor of Poole, Cllr. Lou Knight, to our long serving secretary Mrs. Babs Benstead. Heather Tidball gave a very illuminating talk about the Urban Heaths Partnership, dealing with the use and abuse of heathland, and there was also a display stand of their activities. There is a lot of heathland around Broadstone, and members were asked to be alert to arson, vandalism and fly-tipping. After refreshments, the meeting was addressed and questions taken by Inspector King covering the local scene, and the view from the top by the Chief Constable of Dorset, Martin Baker. The Chief Constable said that one of his priorities was to get the level of neighbourhood policing right. He was very keen to raise the profile of the police on the ground, not just through additional Police Officers, but with the help of Community Support Officers, Special Constables and volunteers. He concluded by thanking all involved in Neighbourhood Watch for their help and support. If you require further information or would like to help us please contact David Williams (695341).
