MY BALLET JOURNEY

Our story started in the Summer 1999 edition of this magazine where Caroline featured as an 'Achiever'; now read on...

Swan Lake

I started Ballet at the Murilova Ballet School in Broadstone when I was 3 years old.
When I first joined I did not join in for three weeks and my mother said "If you don't join in this week, I shall never bring you again" !

However during my time there, I performed at festivals in Bourne-mouth and the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil. I also performed with the Lewis London Ballet Company. When I was 9 years, I left Springdale First School and was set to attend the middle School but I won a place at Stonelands School of Dance in Devon where I was selected to dance with the Kirov Ballet aged 10 in Sleeping Beauty at the London Coliseum. This was the first time I put on a pair of 'point' shoes.

In my third year there, I won the All England Ballet Championship at Weston-Super-Mare and Exeter. Afterwards, I won another Scholarship at the Legat School of Dance in Sussex where I was trained by ex-Royal Ballet Soloists such as Brenda Last, Janet Kinson and Linden Curry. I was then lucky enough to win a place and a scholarship at the English National Ballet School in London at the age of 16. Three Students and myself were chosen in the second year to travel to La Scala, Milan in Italy to perform in Pas de Quatre from Swan Lake.

I then joined the European Ballet Company to dance in Coppelia and shortly afterwards, I performed in Derek Deane's production of Swan Lake in the 'Round' at the Royal Albert Hall , with the English National Ballet Company. I then joined the Vienna Festival Ballet Company which toured Switzerland earlier this year and I have been performing principal roles such as Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, Swanhilda in Coppelia and my favourite role, Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. I am now 22 years of age and hoping to broaden my horizons this year. Many thanks to everyone whose has supported me throughout my successful journey.
