Reporting Back - September 2010
Annette Brook MP, Mid Dorset and North Poole Constituency

Mike and I have just returned from a three week trip to Canada. This is the first holiday that we have taken for five years and we did have a great time. We spent two weeks in the Rockies and then went to Newfoundland to join in the celebrations of the 400th Anniversary of the first English settlers in Canada at Cupids. As you may be aware there are strong historical links between Poole and Newfoundland and we also took the opportunity to visit a house in Trinity which is a replica of a house in Lytchett Minster, both having been built by the Lester Garland family as country houses. The houses around St James Church in Poole are of the same period and were merchants' town houses. The trade between Poole, Newfoundland and Spain was very significant in the eighteenth century.
I returned to the most enormous backlog of work and I am still working hard to catch up. I apologise if my replies to you are delayed. One issue which has emerged again is noise from Bournemouth Airport. An anonymous leaflet has been delivered in some parts of Broadstone whilst I have been away. I cannot stress enough that if you are disturbed by aircraft noise then you should report those concerns to the airport complaints section. It is vital that all problems are logged. Mike and I had a meeting with the Chairman of the Airport Consultative committee earlier this summer and were made aware that trials had been taking place but they were not supposed to be making the situation in Broadstone worse. The Chairman agreed at that time to attend the Area Committee meeting in Broadstone in October and so I shall provide more details in due course. Meanwhile I will get all the issues on the anonymous leaflet checked out with the Director of the Airport.
Parliament returns on 6th September, much earlier under the new regime! I will report back on some important issues which will be debated in this September session.
Finally, I have been shortlisted for an award as best female MP of the year. I don't actually think I am going to win but I am quite chuffed to be one of three on this shortlist!
