Despite the advent of Spring, it is a quiet month for events. On April 13th, there is the last winter task on Upton Heath for DWT, meeting in Longmeadow Lane (Creekmoor). Phone 256109 for details. Friends of Broadstone Nature Reserve are visiting the HCT reserve on Dunyeats Hill on 16th April, 09.30 AM at the cul-de-sac for 18 Merriefield Avenue. Also on the 16th there is a walk on Canford Heath, led by the Countryside Warden, Jez Martin. Meet 14.00 hrs at the Gravel Hill lay-by. The rare 'British White' cattle on Barrow Down are both soon to produce calves. They will stay in that enclosure until there is sufficient food on Corfe Hills (at the end of Fairview Drive) to support them. RSPB have a talk on Highlands and Islands Thurs. 13th April 7.30 PM at Upton Community Centre, and the season's last bird-boat trip is scheduled for Sunday 16th 11.00 am. About this time of year, Dorset Countryside Services publish a book containing details of hundreds of events across the county for the coming year. It costs approx. £2.50, and normally appears at local libraries, but details from 01305 224258 if you cannot find a copy. Residents next meeting is 13th April.
