One of the 'low' months, with virtually all Summer creatures doing their best to avoid trouble for the next five months, and the Winter migrant birds still arriving. With little to see, most environment groups turn their hands to the Conservation tasks. Nothing like a good bonfire to warm spirits. Alas, the group I run on the Broadstone Heath Reserve cannot have fires, as it could set an unfortunate precedent. But other local groups working on bigger heaths do have space for a bonfire or two. Occasionally, I work with RSPB at Arne, and large piles of Rhododendron disappear with ease. As for outdoor events, mainly conservation work and some birds. DWT are busy on Brownsea (17th), Luscombe Valley (17th) and Upton Heath.(10th). Friends of Broadstone LNR will be working in the morning on 10 Nov, and Dorset Countryside Volunteers are in Upton Wood - close to Upton House -also on 10th Nov. They are in the area again on 30th, at Parley Common. For Poole RSPB, the November Birdboat is on 3rd, and the December boat is on 1/12/02. Durlston Country Park (DCC), have a birdwatch on 17th and 24th, and National Trust have a bird morning and lunch on Wed 13th. The Greenlink Guide (http://www.greenlink.co.uk) still has a few more events for this month. There has to be something that you will enjoy. Useful numbers :-
