Difficult to say much about October, as I spent most of the month in Glasgow, which is not the greenest of cities. First winter visitors are arriving in the harbour, and Poole RSPB are organising 'bird boats' around the harbour on 2nd and 16th Nov. Details tel. 748445. As I mentioned last month, conservation work is in full swing. Locally, the Friends of Broadstone Nature Reserve will be at work in the Reserve on Sunday 2nd (10.00AM, Fontmell Road), and Upton Heath Volunteers are working on Thursday 13th Nov. (10.00 AM Upton Country Park). Poole RSPB work at Arne on the first Sat and Sun. in the month, 10.00 AM car park. East Dorset District Council run frequent tasks, details from Moors Valley. Dorset Conservation Volunteers are at Branksome Dene Chine on 2nd Nov and Bourne Valley on 22nd and 23rd Nov. Once upon a time, there was a Greenlink Guide which carried all the details for guided walks and events. It has now been enhanced to cover all of Dorset, and has a new title DORSET ON YOUR DOORSTEP. Free copies of the guide can be obtained from the local Library. Useful numbers:
