After a very dry and sunny month, we are really into the start of Summer. Lots of lovely flowers and a fair number of birds and butterflies. The latter have a quiet period now, before turning up in force in July. Have seen a green hairstreak in the nature reserve in the Rec., and even more of a rarity, two Wall butterflies on Upton Heath. This species has been drawing back to the coast in recent years, so two this far away from the shore is special. Perhaps they are spreading again. Still waiting to hear from Leisure Services about how, and by whom, the management of nature reserves and open spaces will be done. DWT are busy across the County, with walks and talks, and on Friday there is a first chance to see bats and nightjars on Studland (679847). Nightjars crop up again on July 2nd, with a walk on Upton Heath (as above). There is also a physical task on the 2nd Thursday of each month (07970 552673). Have yet to get work programmes from DCV, and collect the latest issue of Dorset on your Doorstep, so not sheets of information for once. But with so much fine weather, why not collect a picnic, binoculars, and set off into one of the many natural areas we have around us. There is so much to see, if you look! Useful numbers:
