Environmental News June 2006
Poor old environment. One day it is warm, the next very wet, then some cold winds before the cycle starts again.
No one seems really happy with life, except possibly the plants, who seem to be growing at an astonishing rate and producing large quantities of flowers. Very beautiful though, and some of the woods this last month have been stunning. Orchids look to be having a specially good year.
Seen plenty of ducklings and baby pheasants, and also several young deer. Funny, but it is relatively easy to see ducklings, but after a few weeks they disappear. Do they all get eaten?
In terms of activities, Dorset Coast and Countryside lists over 50 activities for June, including boat trips to see nesting birds on the Durlston Cliffs, and early encounters with nightjars. I expect there will be several pairs back on Corfe Hills again. Locally you can go pond digging in Bourne Valley, BoP (261303 4th) and walk their Heathland trail (6th) If you need further information and cannot get it via the phone numbers below, try to contact me on 255076.
