At the meeting on March 1st, the Committee and interested Wardens, discussed the problems associated with the current entry to the 'toastrack' parking area in front of the shops on the East side of the Broadway. Previous attempts to prevent the congestion and tail backs beyond the roundabout had failed, and the area was still a potential road-rage site. After much discussion it was decided that for a temporary period, the Broadway entrance to Macaulay Road should be shut, and traffic would enter from the Southern end of the service road, and exit via Macaulay Road and Kirkway or Tudor Road. This solution was accepted by half the members present, and passed to the Council Local Area Committee for their consideration. Footpath 5 was briefly mentioned, and it appears there have been some fresh objections to the proposals, and as a result the Public Enquiry has been postponed. The Developments at the corner of York Rd/Grange Rd and 113-119 York Rd, to which BRA objected, have both been refused on appeal, but new less obtrusive plans have been resubmitted and are likely to be accepted. Both BRA and the Chamber of Trade are still pushing the Council over the general state of untidiness in the Broadway, both in terms of litter and the uneven and damaged state of the paving blocks. We are advised that there will be a concerted campaign on the litter problem across the whole Borough in the next financial year. May sees the AGM approaching, when Officers are elected for 2001/2002, and we will be delighted to meet anyone wishing to become an active member. Please contact the Hon. Sec. on 255076 if you wish to know more. Our talk at the AGM will be about the role of the newly formed local
