Broadstone Residents' Association AGM - May 2001

The Broadstone Residents Association held its Annual General Meeting at St. John's Church Hall on the 17th May.

Between 50 and 60 members and officers attended, and the formal part of the meeting saw all the existing officers re-elected, the accounts approved and the annual subscription fixed at the current £1.00 level. During any other business, Councillor Mason asked if there were any residents interested in becoming secretary and/or treasure for the Youth Centre Committee - a quarterly affair.

During the interval there was a wine and cheese buffet, with an excellent array of cheese provided by The Combi Shop in the Broadway.

After the break, there was a talk on 'A Partnership between Patients and GPs', given by Mrs Anne Holland, Chairman of the Poole Central and North Primary Health Care Trust. The Trust is a relatively new idea, and Poole is one of the first areas to have such bodies. Their aim is to oversee and co-ordinate all the health care activities - doctors, nurses, home services, etc. - that are provided outside of Hospitals. Its a daunting task, requiring strong management and careful integration of limited financial and manpower resources. Currently the Trust is concentrating on improving facilities for heart and cancer patients, and dealing with the large number of elderly residents. Mrs Holland thinks they will succeed, but a big cloud on the horizon is the decline in the number of nursing home, but a growth in the need for long term care for the elderly.
