At the last meeting of the Executive Committee the first action was an expression of sympathy for the relatives of Hazel Jones, who died as the result of an assault during a robbery. The second action was to congratulate local Councillor Graham Mason who has begun his year as Mayor of Poole. Discussion then moved to changes to the Toastrack. The Local Area Committee had agreed to fund changes to the traffic island at the roundabout end of the parking area. This was the second placed option in the original questionnaire, but was preferred by the Chamber of Trade, and was cheaper to implement. The next Local Area Committee meeting is at Broadstone Library on 17th July at 7.30pm. The Loyal Petition had been delivered to Buckingham Palace by our President, Ken Fleming, and Annette Brooke our MP. After some discussion it was decided to make a grant of £250 towards the rebuilding cost of the Methodist Church, with possibly a further grant next year. This would depend on the state of our finances, bearing in mind the decision at the AGM to raise the Annual Subscription for 2003 from £1.00 to £1.50. Planning Applications were generally in line with local norms, except the plan to develop 38 Fairview Crescent, which had gone to Appeal at H Ms Inspectorate. The problem of private encroachment onto Council land at Portmore Close as still very active, and there was to be a meeting of the Council Scrutiny Committee on July 11th, which BRA would attend. Schools were progressing well, with various awards for excellence in
speciality fields. As yet Corfe Hills did not have a new Head. The proposals
for a six term school year had been suspended for a year. Finally, the
Summer magazine was being printed and would be distributed at the next
Committee Meeting, on August 1st. For Broadstone.net by Dudley Hull Say you saw it on "Broadstone NET" |
