Broadstone Residents' Association AGM - August 2002

At the August meeting of the Executive Committee, the Summer 2002 edition of the magazine was distributed. The meeting was chaired by Pat Talbot, the deputy Chairman.

There was some discussion as to whether we would wish to plant a Jubilee Tree, to match the Millennium Tree, and also whether a second seat would be welcome. This decision would be considered at the next meeting when the Committee had looked at the projected cashflow figures incorporating the increased subscription rates.

We had received a detailed letter from the Police regarding the usefulness of their helicopter. Capital costs were virtually covered by a government grant, but nothing was said about maintenance. There had been further complaints about students from Corfe Hills parking their cars in Widworthy Drive, and blocking access for the Council's refuse collectors.

The business of encroachment onto Council land by a local builder at Delph Woods was still not resolved. The Council meeting on the matter appeared not to identify any bad decisions by Council Officers, and had still to resolve the amount of compensation due. The associated question of a full audit of Council land had not been resolved by the Council at all.

The Community Strategy was discussed. The proposal for this Government initiative, was in the form of a questionnaire, which as usual did not give sufficient time for a measured response. Additionally, it seemed that the questions were structured in such a way that all the answers were 'very important', and that any contentious issues were not broached. In the end the Committee decided to send an 'OK' reply, accompanied by a letter saying we considered the attached list of points should also be included in the strategy.

The last major issue was the decision of the Boundary Commission to move all of Pine Springs South, from the Broadstone Ward into Creekmoor. This had caused a lot of bad feeling among the residents concerned, and had been done despite representations from our Association, not to change boundaries. In practice, not much would happen to those homes involved, as they still retained the BH18 postcode, and all the school catchment areas were unchanged. The only change would be their local Councillors.

The Committee felt that we should circulate a letter to all the homes involved, reassuring them that there would be no penalty in moving to Creekmoor Ward. This to be done as soon as possible.

The next Committee Meeting is to be on September 12th, in the Library.
