At our October Meeting we were pleased to welcome Annette Brooke, our M.P., despite the fact she had been busy at Westminster during the day. The meeting was on the day following the Local Area Committee, and a number of points raised at the LAC were similar to questions we wanted answers. Like most aspects of Local Government, there were few clear cut answers, and most required the outcome of further meetings (Encroachment at Delph Woods, Footpath 5, for example), whilst others were dependant on availability of resource and money (Toastrack resurfacing, and modification to the traffic island in the Broadway). We also spent some time discussing the parking problems around Corfe
Hills School, where there is insufficient on-site parking for senior
pupils, and waiting parents at the end of the day exacerbates the On the planning front, most of our recent objections had had some effect and revised more moderate applications had surfaced. However the plan to considerably develop number 2 Brookdale Close had been approved. The last part of the meeting was spent discussing our current role
in the Community. With the recent advent of the LAC, there was now a
degree of similarity between the local areas of interest that both committees
covered. However the LAC was an open public meeting and sometimes led
to direct decisions by the Councillors, whereas we could discuss and
advise but not decide, even though we represented a large number of
Broadstone households. The general feeling was that we should still
negotiate with the Council to achieve best results for Broadstone people,
but should also explore other avenues that were not dependant on Council
resources So where do we go? If any resident reading this summary has
ideas for our future activities, please telephone the Secretary on 255076. For Broadstone.net Say you saw it on "Broadstone NET" |
