| Broadstone Residents Committee Meeting - 27th March 2003 | |
|
The Newsletter was distributed, and many street wardens came to collect their copies. AGM plans had moved on and most things were settled. One potential problem was that Margaret Roebuck was standing as a Conservative Candidate at the Local Elections. If she was elected she would not be eligible for the Residents' Committee, and we would need to find a new Education Officer. There had been a number of complaints about the large rise in the Council Tax, and also a complaint about vehicles speeding down Springdale Road. Footpath 5 had been discussed at the last LAC, but no progress had been made. There is a feature called Permissive Path, that may provide an avenue of compromise with the Golf Club. The new Policy Director for education would be starting in July. Badly needed now, as falling pupil numbers have caused major budget problems for local schools. Currently our funds are at their annual low, and we have received requests from Broadstone Football Club, the War Memorial hall and Broadstone in Bloom for donations, and we hope to give a further sum to the Methodist Church fund. The most sensitive area for planning was trees, where a number in Corfe Lodge Road had been felled, and a similar situation had occurred on the site of the Fairlight Hotel. This latter event had been photographically recorded, and passed to Council Planners for action. Everyone was pleased with the re-surfacing of the toastrack, and the modified island by Macaulay Rd. This latter change looked to have solved the bottleneck problem, but when the Pelican Crossing was in frequent use it still caused a jam at the roundabout. Apart from the Treasurer and an Assistant Chief Warden, existing Officers agreed to stand for the next year, and would be proposed en-bloc at the AGM, which is on 15th May at St John's Church Hall, 7.30PM.
