The normal rash of holidays led to a reduced number of members present, and with the absence of both Chairman and Vice-Chairman, John Milhofer took the Chair. The Secretary was still trying to get information on Mechanical Biological Treatment Units - possibly an integral part of Dorset's future waste strategy. Despite an appeal to the Council to change the current pairing of Broadstone with Merley and Bearwood as a Local Area Committee, the grouping still stood. The absence of common ground gave rise to some very uneventful meetings - perhaps what the Council wanted? Broadstone in Bloom had been trying, yet again, to get shop owners to repair the copings round the flower beds in the Broadway. One day.....?? A number of planning applications had been issued, asking to knock down an older house and replace with flats. 3 Westheath Rd, 21 Tudor Rd and 33 Higher Blandford Rd appeared reasonable. Also a backland development of 7 bungalows in Pickering Close was going ahead Cllr Brooke informed us that there were no Broadstone Roads in this years Road Maintenance programme. John Sayers, the new Chief Warden, had been beset by resignations of road wardens, but had recruited a couple of replacements. One of the problems seemed to be that wardens were loathe to collect the £1.50 subscription. This would be due with the circulation of the Summer Magazine, which would be published on 19th August. Other wardens felt exactly the opposite, as it was a good time to get to know people in their 'patch' The Chamber of Trade raffle for new Christmas Lights was going slowly, so if you come across a shop with a poster in the window, do buy a ticket and maybe you will be in New York in December. Don Rogers told us a bit about local schools, and the problems Poole may have when they try to bring in a uniform system of age transfer. He also highlighted the size of Corfe Hills, which now has 1600 pupils, 500 computers, over 150 teachers and helpers and a budget of nearly six million pounds. The next meeting will be on 19th August, and include Magazine distribution. For Broadstone.net Say you saw it on "Broadstone NET" |
