Residents Association Meeting, 29th June 2006
At the Executive Committee Meeting on 29th June, the subjects discussed were :-
AGM in May
Members felt it had been successful, and the presence of a number of younger people had benefited the evening. It was suggested that the meeting was not well publicised for non-residents.
There were lots of comments about the new Wilts and Dorset bus timetables. These had been re-issued based on the profitable routes, which meant that several parts of Poole were now devoid of buses. This included Corfe Mullen and the NW part of Broadstone. The Council were allocating money to subsidise extra buses, but these only partly replaced the original routes, and were generally very restricted in the number of buses running each day.
The Chairman had tried to use the 222222 number to contact the (non-emergency) police, and had waited 15 minutes for a response. This should not be so, but police admitted that the line was stretched and they were taking steps to improve the service.
The new Police team for Broadstone had toured the village with David Williams, and he felt we would be well looked after.??
The first sub-group had met twice, and there were some draft notes available. The parking problem seemed inescapable, particularly with lots of elderly and less mobile shoppers. As a corollary, it was important for shops to provide a level of service that helped the elderly rather than frighten them away.
We were going to have a farmers market in the toast rack area at the start of September. This would run for a few months to see if it was a real success. Hopefully it would bring more shoppers into Broadstone.
Finally there was comment about a proposed telecom wireless mast, due to be erected in Pine Springs. The local residents had organised a petition against the development, and this concerted opposition could possibly succeed.
The next meeting was to be on August 3rd, at which the summer Magazine would be distributed.
