Residents Association Meeting, 3rd August 2006

Summary of the Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday 3rd August 2006, in Broadstone Library.

A survey of the previous minutes confirmed that there was still no money for Footpath 5, and also that there was little progress with Wilts and Dorset over improved bus services.

Broadstone was to have its first Farmers Market on 19th August, and Cllr. Mike Brooke was expecting complaints about the loss of parking spaces.

The Chairman told the meeting that the 'New History...' was now virtually complete and a disc for the publishers would soon be ready. He also wondered whether the 20MPH restriction and speed humps in Tudor Rd would help with the dangerous traffic congestion.

Of the recent planning applications, the move to build in the back gardens of 17/19 Springdale Rd was likely to go ahead, and a new plan for a block of flats at 32 Dunyeats Rd had driveway access problems.

Our Treasurer, Roger Jefferies reported that things were still well with our accounts, with a current balance of just over £4000.

Brian Lloyd circulated a summary of the major points he had raised regarding Cost Centres and large underspend by the Council. This could have been used to reduce Council Tax.

The meeting felt that it would be of benefit if we could arrange a visit from a Council Officer to discuss this approach.

There was also a wish to visit the Council's new Call Centre, to see the current state of development.

Bob Williams stated he would be presenting a paper on the Broadstone Economy to the committee, for discussion at the next meeting.

David Williams talked about the current status of Police Matters.

After a number of late-night incidents and Police pressure, the Broadstone Hotel pub had been closed until 13th Sept, and re-opening (possibly in December) was subject to a number of conditions including serving drinks in plastic glasses and restricted opening hours.

Regarding the Station Hotel, JN had heard a rumour that there was an application to demolish the Pub and develop the site. He asked PAT to enquire. Action - PAT

Mr Floyd raised the problem of the ramp up from Somerfield car park to the doctor's surgery in Kirkway. He said from practical experience it was extremely difficult for wheelchair users, and asked if it could be made less steep. MB said that a Highways Officer was already looking at the problem

The next meeting is at 7.30 pm on October 5th in the Library
