Residents Association Meeting, 22nd February 2007

Summary of the Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday 22nd February 2007.

A relatively peaceful meeting.

The Broadway Clock was installed and working well.

Natural England (ex English Nature), had been given a reduced budget, and work on Footpath 5 was suspended once more.

Plans for refurbishment of the Broadstone Hotel had been displayed, and there seemed to be good ideas and bad ideas in the plans. We should hold a subsequent meeting to discuss this item.

We had given Broadstone in Bloom a grant of £250 for plants.

We needed to make clear which speaker we would have at the AGM, -RNLI or Dorset Records Office.

The Chairman read a letter from John Milhofer stating that he would be relinquishing the post of Editor and advertising manager after the AGM. John Noyes also indicated that he would be resigning at the 2008 AGM.

The treasurer gave figures for slightly increased membership this year, and also painted a very promising picture for sales of our New History of Broadstone book. Working up towards 1000 copies, we had covered all our expenses, and should have a reasonable profit to help local organisations.

Apart from Broadstone Hotel, there were other applications to build more flats, with 20 York Road being the largest, and 5 Westheath Road another candidate.

After a few visits, the monthly Farmers Market appeared to be reasonably popular, with no serious complaints.

The Council had released some of the Leisure Contribution money, to enable the Middle school to install flood lights for their sports pitches. This would make them available to external clubs all the year round.

Members were worried about the increasing population density that was being pushed by the regional Assembly. Whilst it might have no direct effect, it was agreed that we write to the Council planners listing all the problems the current trend would have – loss of green belt, no transport, schools, services. Traffic levels, parking Nightmares, etc.

Finally there was a short discussion on how we might get better feedback from our members? It could possibly be achieved via Broadstone.net?
