Residents Association Meeting, 22nd November 2007
Summary of the Executive Committee meeting held on Thursday 22nd November, 2007, in Broadstone Library.
The paving blocks in the Broadway have been inspected and according to the Inspector are all below the ‘dangerous’ limit.
The meeting approved a quote of £248 to repair the notice board by the Post Office.
The Chairman reminded the meeting that he intended to resign next Spring, and that this was the last meeting in 2007. Who might succeed him??
The application for six flats at 14 Ridgeway had been refused.
The application to redevelop the Broadstone Hotel had eventually been passed, and work was about to begin. Initially the latest application had been refused primarily on the grounds of insufficient parking. A revised plan with an extra 9 spaces had been accepted, but only in the face of an implied threat to demolish the hotel and build even more flats.. Once again there was an unofficial survey of the area at 9.00PM one evening, that found 100 free parking spaces in the vicinity. It later transpired that the survey had been carried out by Head of Planning himself !!!
MB told the meeting that soon the developer would be putting in a proposal for sheltered accommodation on the site of the old Fairlight Hotel.
The treasurer reported that income to date was nearly £6000, 30% up on last year, thanks to the increase in the subscription to £2.00. This leaves a surplus for the year to date of £5,823. However we shall have the winter magazine to pay for in January which I anticipate will be in the region of £2,500.
Our overall balance is now £13,522.16, most of which is earning interest.
Our Editor, Barry Smith was in the USA, and had provided a written report that implied that the Winter Magazine would not be available for 10th January.
Chamber of Trade were all set for the Xmas events. The lights would be switched on by Tony Walsh, the Director of the Siemens buildings in Sopers Lane. The company had been most supportive towards CoT. The parade was due on 1st December
Sec commented the £40,000 feasibility study for the Solar Pyramid. This was a 200ft stainless steel edifice that worked like a giant sun-dial. The only likely site was Baiter Park, and the general response from all parties was NO. The Council had called a public meeting to discuss this further on 10th Dec. 7.30 PM, Lighthouse.
Our new Police Community Support Officer Karen Preston had settled in. She was called out recently when several people in Cheam road reported damage. She was able to reassure residents that the police were on the case, and there should be no further trouble.
Policing. Poole and Bournemouth are to combine, with overall control with the Chief Superintendent in Bournemouth
There will be a new HQ to be built on the site of the old Poole Fire Station, whilst Fire and Rescue moves to new premises at Marshes End.
