| Broadstone Residents' Association - Committee Meeting |

|
At the last Committee Meeting of Broadstone Residents' Association, there was a debate about the application by 'The Stepping Stones' pub, for a full entertainment licence. This extended into a general discussion about the evening gatherings of youths in the lower end of the Broadway, and the recent large mobs around the Charborough Road entrance to the Recreation Ground. It appeared that much of the problem was caused by under age drinking, with cans supplied by older youths, purchased from shops in the locality. In view of the general unhappy climate, the Association elected to oppose the application, and if necessary will speak at the hearing on 19th August. Tudor Road Exit The newly narrowed exit from Tudor Road was also discussed. It forms part of a government funded incentive to provide 'Safer walking to Schools'. Members felt it would cause horrific problems when the schools re-opened, as it was already a bottleneck at 3.00 PM. Councillors felt the Highways Department would monitor the situation and if it was too dire, the junction would have to be changed again. Noise Pollution at Upton Heath Problems of noise pollution were being experienced by residents living near to Upton Heath. Cllr Annette Brooke had arranged a public meeting for August 11th to investigate ways of tackling the problem. We had written to the local M.P. asking for proper legislation to deal with this kind of problem. Sorting Office to Close Broadstone is soon to lose its postal Sorting Office. The building behind the Post Office in Dunyeats Road has been condemned by the Health and Safety inspectors, and all sorting after the end of the August is to be done at the Alder Road office. We fear some delays in deliveries are inevitable. Web Site The Committee had, earlier this year, discussed the possibility of setting up a web site, but felt it lacked the necessary expertise. As if by magic, www.Broadstone.net came to our notice, and the Committee felt we should explore this as an avenue for helping to inform and integrate the Community. Hence this first news item. If you wish to know further details, please ring the Secretary, Dudley Hull, on 255076, or E-Mail Dud@Fairmeadow.demon.co.uk. The next Committee Meeting is on Sept 16th. Dudley Hull
