|Broadstone Residents' Association - Committee Meeting : October 1999|
At the October 28th meeting of Broadstone Residents Association the Committee approved the sub-committee's recommendation that the Millennium Tree should be a special form of oak tree that has a conical shape rather like a Christmas tree. This to be planted in the Autumn of the year 2000. The Association is also giving financial help to Broadstone in Bloom, for their millennium project.
The Alfred Wallace Memorial Fund has almost reached the £5000 target, and after refurbishment should be ready by Spring 2000.
The Broadstone history is just getting underway. Anyone wishing to help on the project should contact Margaret Roebuck on 693459. Having written to our MP about motor cycles destroying the Upton SSSI, he replied that the government have legislation in the pipeline, but no promises as to when it might be approved.
The committee heard of safety improvements to the stretch of Higher Blandford Road. These included improved signs, a painted cycle lane and a pedestrian phase for crossing the end of Springdale Road. Ultimately there would be at least one speed camera installed there. The Chamber of Trade were running the Christmas Parade this year on December 4th, despite initial problems in getting the police to help with traffic control.
The Chief Warden announced that we had achieved a 5% growth in members this year.
There have been a number of Council Consultation documents recently, and the Association does its best to respond. Often time is short and it is not easy to consult with more than a handful of members. Normally the consultation documents are available in the Library, but if you have a strong desire that your response should be entered as part of the BRA response, Then please either phone the Secretary on 255076, or send an E-Mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Currently the discussion documents are the wide area traffic plan for Poole/B'Mth/Christchurch, and the proposed revised parking schedules for Broadstone.
The next meeting of the Committee will be on December 2nd
