Broadstone Residents' Association - Committee Meeting : December 1999

The December meeting of the Executive Committee discussed the possibility of providing a suitable commemorative seat to accompany the millennium tree to be sited in the Recreation Ground.

They also expressed concern to the Council about the number of home-based businesses springing up in Dunyeats Road.

The meeting was told that Hall and Woodhouse had appealed against the decision to refuse an entertainment licence for the Stepping Stones. The new hearing was to be in Wareham on 7,8,9th of January.

There was a report on the revised parking scheme for Broadstone. As a result of public responses there would be no change in Grange Road or Heysham Road, but the remainder of the changes will be advertised prior to implementation, together with some restrictions on parking in Ridgeway.

Educationally the results from the recent SATs are much improved over last year, particularly at Keystage 2. Once again the Standard Spending Assessment (SSA) for Poole is very poor, compared with both neighbouring Bournemouth and Dorset. Councillors are due to meet government officers later this month.

Siemens have submitted four more planning applications for the Sopers Lane site. These include a Nursery School next to the Hotel, with access via Cabot Lane, and a new access road to the site coming via another set of traffic lights onto Broadstone Way - (or was it the Broadstone Relief Road?)

There was some discussion about a speaker for next years AGM. The topic of 'waste' generated a lot of interest, and the Committee decided to explore the possibility of finding a local expert on this topic.

Current membership is roughly 2850 families, and the Winter Issue of the Magazine will be distributed starting Jan 20th, 2000
