The list of famous residents or ex-resident in Broadstone that we have been able to find up to now consists of the following:

Alfred Russel Wallace, biologist, was joint discoverer of the theory of evolution with Charles Darwin. An interesting site with plenty of information is The Alfred Russel Wallace Page.

Richard Todd, the actor, lived in the village as a boy.

Stuart Hibberd, the first BBC Chief Announcer when radio ruled the media, lived with his family in Broadstone.

Jan Fabricus, one of the most famous Dutch authors, lived at Caesar's camp, a house on Broadstone Heights.

Nikolaus Pevsner may have visited Broadstone as the watertower and St John's Church are both in the Dorset architectural guide.

Jack Hargreaves used to shop in Coward's Butchers back in the late sixties/early seventies.

Dick Emery has played at least one round on Broadstone golf course.

Greg Lake of the rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer lived in Broadstone during part of his childhood.

Karen Legg, the swimming record-holder and medallist is rumoured to be a current Broadstone resident.

V. DeCourcy-Hughes - well respected in horticultural circles. Has a tomato named after him.

Sir John Howard - Chairman of the National Union of Conservatives Associations, also the builder of the Fleetbridge.

Brigadier-General R.M.Poore - played cricket for Broadstone, Hampshire and South Africa. Lived at Rose Lawn Coppice.

Gilbert Bayes was the well respected sculptor of our War Memorial here in Broadstone.

Robert Fripp was born in 1946 went to school in Broadstone between 1952 and 1957, then moved on to Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Wimborne. His mother ran a grocery shop in Green Road, Poole, between 1936-39, later moving to Wimborne where Robert lived until the age of 21. Robert Fripp is a guitarist, record producer and composer but is probably best known for being guitarist with King Crimson, along with Greg Lake who also lived in Poole. He has worked with well known names such as David Bowie, Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. He married Toyah Wilcox in 1986 whom he met while living at Witchampton.

Bryan Telfer lived in Broadstone since 1993. He captained the HMS Intrepid in the Falklands war. And made his way up from a seaman to captain. He lived in Widworthy Drive, after coming back from Belgium, representing Britain at NATO. He recently died, having his funeral at St. Anthony's Church on York Road, and is buried in Broadstone cemetery. He also played a role in setting up businesses in the area and chaired the Institute of Management (now the Chartered Management Institute).
