Railway enthusiasts' Special
Railway enthusiasts' Special
The train appears to be a railway enthusiasts' special: a passenger train with an LMS 8F 2-8-0 goods engine (very rare on the S & D), which has been polished up (look at the buffers), and idiots are hanging out of the train windows. I think this is one of the 2 specials run on Sunday 6.3.65, the last day the S & D was "open" (though there were no scheduled Sunday trains by then). Here it is coming back off the Poole line in the afternoon (see shadow of building on Platform 2 /3 as it falls on the coaches). The special which started from and returned to Bath on that day was, in fact, hauled by an 8F. [Information - John Saville]
