FROM THE VICAR: Because this magazine is compiled nearly two weeks before it is printed, we had not actually celebrated Christmas by the time the January issue came out — but what a wonderful celebration it was! Somewhere around twelve hundred people came through our doors over the Sunday and Monday — news is getting around that if you want a seat at either of the two Christingle services, you have to get there early!

The worship was warm and inspiring and I am grateful to the many people who came and also to all those who helped in any way in the decorating, preparations and presentations of our services.

I had noticed that several who come on a regular or occasional basis do not receive Holy Communion because they have not been confirmed. Having taken the opportunity to speak to the large crowds at Christingle and to have a quiet word with others, no fewer than fourteen adults are going to be presented for confirmation when Bishop John Kirkham comes to celebrate our Family Eucharist on February 4' at l0am. I am absolutely thrilled to bits about this!

We will keep the Feast of Candlemas on that day — the Presentation of Christ in the Temple and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Those to be confirmed will be presented to our Lord in His temple in Broadstone. This day marks the end of the forty days of the Christmas season.

The children and young people who always stay with us throughout on the first Sunday of each month, will be taking part in the service. For most of them, it will be their first experience of seeing a bishop and witnessing a confirmation and I hope that they will be inspired to present themselves in the near future.

For those of you who have wondered what is involved, why don't you come along on the 4th and see for yourselves? We may need another visit from a bishop before too long!
