FROM THE VICAR: Those people who know these things, tell me that Easter this year is almost the earliest that it can be, since the date is set by the lunar calendar. It could only possibly be one day earlier, if that were to coincide with a Sunday.

Meanwhile, we continue our journey through Lent – a term that derives from an ancient word for ‘Spring’. After all the wetness over the winter period, this is proving to be a wonderful, if not just a trifle early, springtime. Daffodils were out in some sheltered locations locally, before Christmas!

St.Paul (in his first letter to the Corinthians) likens death and resurrection to that of the seed appearing to die in the ground, before it begins to sprout with new life – changing its shape and colour dramatically.

The important part of preparation for that, takes place almost imperceptibly. For Christians, the parallels with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus are evident. However, so many avoid the events of Holy Week – because they are too difficult or not considered very important? – but like the activity going on under the ground, they help to provide us with a profound understanding of the glory of Easter that follows.

Holy Week services having been growing in attendance over the years. Do take the opportunity of trying something that you may not have experienced before – particularly the wonderful Easter Liturgy on Holy Saturday evening.

Martin Fredriksen.

For those who feel ‘out of it’ when it comes to not receiving Holy Communion, because you are not confirmed - the Bishop of Salisbury has asked to come to us on Trinity Sunday, 18th May to celebrate the Sung Eucharist and is willing to baptise and/or confirm as many as we present to him at that service. You are never too old, so please have a word with me, because I hope to begin preparation again soon.

THE LORD’S PRAYER – praying it, meaning it, living it.

Final two Wednesdays at 7.30pm – worship, talk and discussion.

5th March at Methodist Church – AS WE FORGIVE – Revd. Robert McBain.

12th March at St.John’s – IN HEAVEN – all the Clergy.
